Swiss Rösti Bar Restaurant
Swiss Club of Victoria Roger was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1949. He was introduced to a kitchen at the age of 15, employed as a kitchen hand in Neuenburg, then going on to complete his apprenticeship in Basel. He followed with a stint as a Commis in Davos, Arrau. later returning to Basel. He then immigrated to Australia in 1970. For two years, he worked with Irvin Rockman, Jurg Metzger at Serendipity and Robs Carousel. From 1972 – 74, he worked with Herman Schneider at the Chef De Cuisin, and Two Faces followed by the opening of The Love Machine. He took a seven-month break in Switzerland, but returned to land a job with Kurt Leitinger at Casa Vergona.
At this point, Roger decided he had had enough of working for others and it was time to open up his first own restaurant, which he did very successfully. In 1978, in Bourke Road, Camberwell, Basilea was born. (Named after his hometown). Basilea was open and thriving from 1978-87, before Roger decided on a change of scenery, opening Schoflörs Restaurant Canterbury Road, Blackburn South. Another 9 years here and it was time for another change. An opportunity came up at The Swiss Club of Victoria, where he and his wife, Dianne designed, built and operated from scratch the Swiss Rösti Bar Restaurant. Roger has now been at The Swiss Club Of Victoria for 9 years and is looking to stay there for many years to come. Roger has been a member of Les Toques Blanches for 15 years.
